Navigating French Pharmacies: A Beauty Lover's Guide
Welcome to Paris! If you’ve just arrived and are eager to indulge in some shopping, you’re likely excited about discovering the French beauty products that have captivated social media. These items are not only unique but often more affordable than their counterparts back home. However, the challenge lies in knowing where to shop, especially in a bustling city like Paris.
Fear not! As a Parisian makeup artist, I’m here to guide you through some of the best pharmacies in the city and how to make the most of your shopping experience.
Most Popular:
CityPharma – 26 Rue du Four 75006 – This pharmacy has become a beloved secret among locals until social media brought it into the limelight. Renowned for its low prices, CityPharma is located in the charming St. Germain des Près area and is frequently crowded. With three floors filled with a vast array of products, navigating the store can be a bit challenging, particularly on the ground floor where beauty items are displayed. While many flock to this level, the upper floors are less busy and house essential medications, supplements, and more specialized items.
Among my favorite sections are the vitamins and supplements on the second floor and the back of the ground floor where you can find unique face masks and lesser-known natural beauty brands. Each visit often leads to discovering something new.
HOT TIP: Be prepared for a bustling atmosphere. Patience is key, especially if you’re browsing without a specific item in mind. Fortunately, the checkout lines move quickly, so don’t let a long line deter you. If you need assistance, the staff in white coats are ready to help—just remember to greet them with a smile and a "Bonjour!"
My Favorite:
Grande Pharmacie du Forum des Halles – Westfield Forum des Halles shopping mall -1 Rue Pierre Lescot Level -2, 75001 – This newer pharmacy is somewhat of a hidden gem.
Situated within the Forum les Halles shopping center, it boasts ample space and a comprehensive range of products, often rivaling CityPharma. Since it’s less known, you’ll find a more local crowd here, and the prices are similar, sometimes varying by just a few euros. This pharmacy offers a selection of popular French beauty items, natural products, homeopathic remedies, and delightful gifts.
HOT TIP: Before visiting, check for promotions; while the information may be in French, the term ‘promotions’ is universally understood.
Most Historic:
Pharmacie Saint Honoré – 115 Rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 – Located near the Louvre and Palais Royal, this pharmacy is the oldest in Paris, established in 1715.
Today, it combines modern offerings with a rich history. The staff is known for their friendliness and helpfulness, and you can often find deals on various products. A highlight is the selection of lip balms and miniatures right at the entrance, perfect for gifts. If you’re looking to blend shopping with a touch of history, this is a must-visit location.
If you’re keen to learn more about Pharmacie Saint Honoré, it’s featured on my Guided Marie Antoinette Shopping Tour, where guests receive exclusive gifts from this location.
For those who may not want to navigate the crowds or are pressed for time between museum visits, don’t worry! There are hundreds of pharmacies throughout the city, most of which offer competitive prices and deals.
HOT TIP: If you venture outside of Paris, be sure to explore pharmacies in other regions, as prices may be even lower.
I hope this guide enhances your experience with French pharmacies and helps you discover the best beauty products Paris has to offer.
Bisous Bisous,
Joleen
