Streaming Highlights: Troy and House of the Dragon Lead the Charts

A classic film from 2004 has reclaimed its place at the top of the streaming charts two decades after its initial release. This resurgence is no coincidence, as it coincides with an extensive promotional campaign surrounding a newer journey to Ithaca.

Troy has surged to the forefront of the rankings, buoyed by the highly anticipated release of The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan in French theaters. The epic film, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, chronicles the conflict between the Greeks and Trojans sparked by the abduction of Helen, the wife of King Menelaus, by Prince Paris. The greatest Greek warrior, Achilles, portrayed by Brad Pitt, joins the expedition in search of glory. The film showcases intense battles, particularly featuring the Trojan defender, Prince Hector. Running Man occupies the second spot this week. Adapted from a novel by Stephen King, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman and directed by Francis Lawrence, the film follows a group of young contestants forced to participate in a brutal competition where they must walk without stopping, or face execution. As the challenge unfolds, fatigue, fear, and rivalries test the competitors. The bonds formed among some participants stand in stark contrast to the violence of the contest, transforming the walk into a harrowing psychological and physical battle for survival, with contestants falling one by one until only one remains. The film, which premiered on Canal+ in early July, continues to draw a large audience.

If You Listen takes third place. The film tells the story of Jill, a young woman who regularly leaves voicemails on her deceased sister's old number to cope with her grief. Unbeknownst to her, these messages are heard by Wes, the new owner of the number, who becomes deeply moved by her story. Fate ultimately brings them together, sparking a beautiful connection, but Wes harbors a secret that could change everything. As their relationship deepens, the truth becomes increasingly difficult to conceal. When it finally comes to light, Jill must choose between her feelings of betrayal and her lingering affection for him. Directed by Leah McKendrick, this film is available on Netflix.

On the television front, House of the Dragon has claimed the top spot this week, fueled by the weekly airing of its third season on HBO Max. Set nearly two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, the Targaryen house reigns supreme over the Seven Kingdoms with the aid of their dragons. When the succession of King Viserys is called into question, familial rivalries intensify, dividing the realm into two factions. Fragile alliances, ambitions, and betrayals proliferate as each party vies for the Iron Throne. As tensions escalate, war looms on the horizon, threatening to obliterate the powerful Targaryen dynasty.

Silo has slipped to second place, despite the notable launch of its third season on Apple TV in early July. The series is set in a vast underground shelter where the last survivors of humanity live under strict rules. When mysterious events challenge the official version of their history, an engineer named Juliette embarks on a quest for truth. As her investigation unfolds, she uncovers secrets that could upend everything the inhabitants believe.

Lucky rounds out the top three this week, buoyed by the release of its first two episodes on July 15 on Apple TV. The series follows Luciana "Lucky" Armstrong, a former con artist who left a life of crime to start anew. After a heist goes wrong, she becomes the target of the FBI and a formidable mafia boss. In order to survive, Lucky is forced to tap into the skills that made her notorious and confront the ghosts of her past. As she flees, she discovers truths about her family and must decide how far she is willing to go to regain her freedom. With betrayals, chases, and twists, every decision puts her life at risk.
