Frankie Starlight tells the poignant story of Frank Blois, played by Corban Walker, who recounts the tale of his mother, Bernadette. Set in 1943 during World War II, Bernadette flees France and illegally enters Ireland while giving birth to Frank.

The film features a notable cast, including Matt Dillon, Anne Parillaud, Gabriel Byrne, and John S. Davies, under the direction of Michael Lindsay-Hogg, known for his work with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. He was also responsible for the restoration of the 1969 rehearsals of the iconic band in Get Back, directed by Peter Jackson.

Following his debut, Farrell took on several minor television roles and appeared in Tim Roth's sole directorial effort, The War Zone (1999). The following year, he landed his first significant role in the war film Tigerland, directed by Joel Schumacher, who would later cast him in Phone Booth.
