David Jonsson Takes on the Role of T'Challa in 'Black Panther 3'

At the recent San Diego Comic Con, director Ryan Coogler revealed significant news regarding the upcoming "Black Panther 3". Following the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed T'Challa, the Marvel team faced a crucial decision about how to proceed with the beloved character's legacy.

After careful consideration, it was decided that Boseman's T'Challa would not be digitally replaced in "Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever". Instead, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, temporarily took on the mantle of protector of Wakanda. This decision was made to honor Boseman's legacy, which Coogler has emphasized would never be replaced.

In a significant announcement, Coogler introduced David Jonsson as the new star of the franchise, set to take on the role of T'Challa's son, Toussaint, who was introduced in the post-credits scene of the previous film. Jonsson is recognized for his roles in "Alien: Romulus" and "The Long Walk – Todesmarsch", where he made a notable impact within the ensemble casts.

"Thank you, Ryan [Coogler], thank you, Kevin [Feige]. Thank you for the privilege and the honor of being a part of this great family. I actually don’t want to say too much; I want to let this moment speak for itself. But believe me, the honor is entirely on my side. Thank you," Jonsson expressed, showcasing his humility as he steps into this iconic role.

While Jonsson steps into the franchise, it is important to clarify that he will not be replacing T'Challa. Instead, he will portray Toussaint, who is still a child in the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This presents a challenge for Coogler, who may need to implement a time jump to accommodate the 32-year-old Jonsson's introduction as the character.

Alternatively, the director could explore the multiverse concept, potentially bringing in an older version of Prince T'Challa from an alternate universe, which Jonsson could embody.

Fans will have to wait until December 15, 2028, to see how this narrative unfolds when "Black Panther 3" hits theaters.
