Hailing from Thal, a small village in Austria, Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks with a distinct regional accent. While this accent is perfectly natural in his homeland, it was deemed a hindrance when adapting Terminator for German audiences.

Producers believed that his way of speaking did not align with the portrayal of a highly sophisticated machine from the future. In both Germany and Austria, certain regional accents are often associated with rural backgrounds, which could seem inappropriate for a character meant to represent a formidable artificial intelligence.
