Crossover Hopes: Tom Holland and Tom Hardy Discuss Spider-Man and Venom

In a recent interview, both Tom Holland and Marvel head Kevin Feige addressed the long-standing fan desire for a crossover between Spider-Man and Venom. The anticipation surrounding this potential collaboration remains palpable among audiences eager to see these two iconic characters share the screen.

The latest addition to the Spider-Man franchise, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," has just hit theaters and marks Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as the beloved web-slinger. This film is not only significant for its narrative but also sets a record for Holland, making him the actor with the most solo Spider-Man films.

Early projections for the film suggest it could rake in nearly $500 million at the box office, bringing the billion-dollar milestone within reach for the franchise. This financial success could solidify Spider-Man's place as a powerhouse in the superhero genre.

Among the film's many highlights is an exciting showdown between Spider-Man and the Hulk. However, the real craving among Marvel fans is for a face-off between Spider-Man and Venom, a wish that has been expressed for years. Up until now, the only glimpse of Tom Hardy's character, Eddie Brock, and Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was a brief appearance in the post-credits scene of "Venom: Let There Be Carnage."

Reports indicate that Sony Pictures has long considered integrating Tom Holland's Spider-Man, who is essentially a guest character in the MCU, into the now-defunct Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Holland himself confirmed this during a podcast appearance on "Happy Sad Confused," stating:

"[Tom] Rothman (Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group) is a really smart guy. I think he had built this universe, and they had the plan to merge the two universes. But I think they just never found the right timing for it. I think it was possible; and there were never any disputes like, 'We want you in this movie' versus 'I don’t want to be in this movie.' That never happened. It was just, 'One day it will happen.'"

Despite the potential for a Spider-Man and Venom crossover remaining unrealized, Holland is currently focused on his latest film. As for the possibility of a future collaboration, both Kevin Feige and producer Amy Pascal shared their optimism during a podcast with journalist Josh Horowitz. Feige remarked, "We always have hope," while Pascal echoed this sentiment, saying, "I have hope. We have hope." Although their responses were somewhat vague, they did not outright dismiss the idea.

Given that the "Venom" films have been the only successful entries in the SSU, it wouldn't be surprising if Sony and Marvel Studios eventually come to an agreement for a crossover featuring these two popular characters. As fans wait patiently, the hope for a Spider-Man and Venom showdown continues to linger in the air.
