Jessica Lange's Condition for Returning to 'American Horror Story'

The announcement of Jessica Lange's return to the cast of 'American Horror Story' for its thirteenth season caught fans by surprise. However, her involvement came with a specific request.

In a recent interview, series creator Ryan Murphy revealed that Lange insisted on being able to sing in the upcoming season. "I just felt that the number 13 is so infused with horror genre, and I wanted to make a greatest hits season," Murphy explained. He was convinced that the season could only be successful with Lange on board, leading him to invite her to dinner. She agreed to participate, provided that she would have the opportunity to perform a musical number.

This request was not an obstacle for Murphy, as Lange has showcased her vocal talents in the series before. In the second season, she sang during the episode featuring "The Name Game," and in the fourth season finale, she performed David Bowie's "Heroes" and "Life on Mars." For this season, Lange is set to reprise all four characters she portrayed in the first four seasons of the series.
