Luca Guadagnino to Receive Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at Venice 83

The Venice Biennale and Cartier have announced that renowned Italian director and producer Luca Guadagnino (After the Hunt, Challengers, Bones and All) will be honored with the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. This prestigious award, which recognizes a figure who has made a unique impact on contemporary cinema, will be presented during the festival, scheduled from September 2 to 12, 2026.

The award ceremony for Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker will take place on Tuesday, September 8, at 3 PM in the Casino Hall (Palazzo del Casinò), prior to the out-of-competition screening of his latest documentary, Joie de vivre (Italy, 435′).

Upon accepting the honor, Luca Guadagnino expressed his gratitude, stating, “It may sound rhetorical to say that I am honored to receive the Glory to the Filmmaker award, but it is the pure truth for numerous reasons: to be celebrated for the craft or life of a filmmaker is an ambition that no one in cinema can presume to imagine achieving, especially joining a group of filmmakers who came before me in this prestigious honor to whom I owe so much for my education. So I want to emphasize again the honor of receiving this award, especially from Alberto Barbera and the Venice Biennale. Thank you, thank you!”
