New Trailer Unveils Absurdity of 'Shark Frenzy' from 'Sharknado' Creators

Each month, the horror genre featuring sharks continues to expand with new titles, and "Shark Frenzy" is one of the latest entries, showcasing a particularly outrageous trailer.

The Asylum, an independent studio based in California, has played a significant role in reviving interest in the shark horror genre with its financially backed "Sharknado" series. This resurgence has led to a mix of home video releases and even some theatrical releases reminiscent of classics like "Jaws."

With the conclusion of the "Sharknado" films, The Asylum is eager to capitalize on this trend. The studio, known for producing low-budget mockbusters such as "The Odyssey" and "Master Of The Universe," continues to churn out films featuring sea monsters with razor-sharp teeth that prey on unsuspecting beachgoers and fishermen.

The latest addition to their catalog is "Shark Frenzy," which appears to take a more serious tone compared to the comedic elements of "Sharknado." The film was released in the United States via video-on-demand in mid-July, although details about its availability in other regions remain undisclosed.

As typical for The Asylum's productions, the cast is largely composed of lesser-known actors, but it does feature a recognizable name to draw attention. David Chokachi, known for his role as a lifeguard on "Baywatch," plays a concerned father in the film.

Ryan Ebert, who has previously directed mockbusters like "The Jolly Monkey" and "Predator Wastelands - Maximal tödlich," helms the project, which is based on a screenplay by M.L. Miller, who has experience with titles such as "Frankenstein’s Bride."

The Plot of 'Shark Frenzy'

The story follows Rob (David Chokachi) and Bev Miller (Sarafina King) as their vacation takes a perilous turn. Their 18-year-old daughter Toni (Sophia Sabol) embarks on a fishing trip with her friends Chelsea (Thandiwe McMillan), Steph (Emily Huffines), and Ed (Brian Latimer) on a rickety old boat, only to find themselves in a life-threatening situation.

The boat is repeatedly attacked by massive sharks, leading it to take on water and begin sinking. The teens manage to escape to a small rowboat, leaving them vulnerable on the open sea. While their parents desperately search for them, the young group fights for survival as aggressive sharks circle ever closer, diminishing their chances of survival with each passing moment.
