The manufacturer positions the series as gaming-oriented. This immediately suggests that such laptops are powerful and characterized by an excellent balance of performance and price.

Let’s examine the features of the lineup using the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R4DN laptop as an example, which can be purchased along with other models in the series from the Citrus online store.

Hardware Specifications

The central processor from AMD is the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800H. With a base clock speed of 3.2 GHz, it is sufficient for simultaneous processing of up to 16 data streams, with a maximum boost clock of 4.4 GHz. This is a fairly powerful CPU with a TDP rating of 45 W, requiring appropriate cooling. This is managed by 2 fans and 4 exhaust vents located on the back and sides of the chassis.

The graphics card does not lag behind: it is the GeForce RTX 3060 with a TDP of 85 W and a clock speed of 1.425 GHz. Of course, this is not a flagship model, as gamers say there are more powerful options available, but the laptop is not top-tier either.

As for the display, it is fully adapted for gaming use. The 15.6-inch IPS panel is quite fast (with a refresh rate of 144 Hz) and has a Full HD resolution. The viewing angles are wide, and the panel has a matte finish.

16 GB of DDR4 SDRAM complements a 512 GB SSD.

Upgrade Capabilities

A characteristic feature of the Acer Nitro 5 series, like most gaming laptops, is easy access to the hardware, providing great opportunities for upgrades. Thus, the RAM is presented in two 8 GB modules, rather than soldered to the motherboard. There will also be no issues replacing the SSD, and there is even a designated space for mounting a 2.5” HDD.

Ports

On the left side, there are two USB-A ports that support the USB 3.2 standard. There is also a 3.5 mm headset jack and an RJ-45 LAN port.

On the right side, there is another USB-A port that supports fast charging, as well as a single USB-C port (also supporting USB 3.2, but without DisplayPort support). For connecting an external monitor, there is an HDMI port located nearby. Wireless technologies are represented by a built-in Wi-Fi module (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0.

The power supply is rated at 180 W, and while it is quite bulky, it is convenient for transport due to its flat profile.

Chassis Design

It corresponds to its purpose, meaning it looks robust, aided by red accents on the rear panel that are located around the perimeter of the radiator grille. The design is further enhanced by angled corners and decorative ribs on the monitor lid.

There are also interesting features inside. The RGB keyboard backlighting allows you to choose a color for three separate zones or for the entire keyboard. There is an option to set dynamic patterns. However, even with the backlighting turned off, the keys won’t be lost in the dark thanks to the white edging.

The touchpad is small but quite ergonomic. There should be no issues with accuracy and sensitivity.

Finally, let’s discuss the dimensions of the Acer Nitro 5 series laptops. Externally, they seem bulky and large, but for purely gaming models, 2.2 kg is not too much. Moreover, a thickness of 2.5 cm is not overly significant.

Prices at the beginning of 2023 range from 36,000 to 50,000 UAH, making it a mid-budget series.
