More than two decades have passed since Grégory Gatignol portrayed the menacing character Mondain in Christophe Barratier's acclaimed film, Les Choristes. But what has become of the young actor since his breakout role?
In 2004, Les Choristes emerged as a cinematic landmark in France, captivating audiences with its heartfelt narrative and an unforgettable soundtrack. The film, inspired by La Cage aux rossignols, stars Gérard Jugnot in a remarkable performance as Clément Mathieu, a supervisor at a boarding school who dedicates himself to teaching music to a group of unruly boys.

Among the film's standout young talents was Grégory Gatignol, who delivered a compelling performance as the rebellious and dangerous Mondain. In a past interview with OnTime, Gatignol shared insights into his casting experience:
"Christophe Barratier came to schools in Clermont-Ferrand looking for extras, and at the same time, he was searching for actors for specific roles. He asked the principals for the troublemakers, and I was certainly one of them. I had been expelled the day before, which intrigued the casting director. She loved my strong demeanor, my dark gaze, and yet my kindness. She asked me to audition, and two weeks later, Christophe Barratier called to tell me I had the part."

Since his debut in Les Choristes at just 14 years old, Grégory Gatignol has continued to pursue his acting career. After completing his CAP in Baking, he returned to the film industry, taking on various roles, particularly in period films and villainous characters.
Over the years, Gatignol has appeared in notable productions such as La Rafle directed by Rose Bosch, Nos résistances by Romain Cogitore, and Un Peuple et son roi by Pierre Schoeller. Seven years after Les Choristes, Barratier once again cast him, this time as the militiaman Brochard in La Nouvelle guerre des boutons.
In 2010, he portrayed the younger version of Jean-Pierre Darroussin in L'Immortel. On the small screen, viewers could spot him in series like Alex Hugo, Alice Nevers, and Das Boot.
