Unexpected Sci-Fi Crossover: Predator Takes on Iconic Cult Species

The fierce Predator has expanded its hunting grounds to the Planet of the Apes in an unexpected Sci-Fi crossover that has just been released.

Since making its debut in 1987, when it hunted action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, the intergalactic hunter from the Yautja race has become a staple in pop culture. However, it was not until 1991, with Danny Glover's appearance in "Predator 2," that the franchise's popularity surged, particularly when a trophy gallery aboard a spaceship featured a Xenomorph skull. This moment subtly hinted at the crossover potential for the franchise.

While the big screen has primarily showcased iconic encounters with the Aliens, fans have enjoyed numerous battles in other formats, including against superheroes like Batman and Wolverine, as well as unexpected figures like Tarzan and Archie.

These confrontations have mostly taken place in comic books, and it is within this realm that the next exciting and surprising crossover is unfolding: the Predator is now on the Planet of the Apes!

In the comic series “Predator vs. Planet of the Apes,” the storyline follows astronaut Arch, who crash-lands on the Planet of the Apes. Initially threatened by the ruling species that enslaves humans, the situation flips when a group of Yautja arrives for the hunt.

Issue 1 of the comic is now available on Amazon. This five-issue series is brought to life by artist Alan Robinson and writer Greg Pak.

The idea of these two iconic Sci-Fi franchises crossing paths is astonishing, and yet, it had not crossed my mind that the Predator and the primates would ever confront each other. In fact, Marvel regained the comic rights to Pierre Boulle's novel in 2023.

Writer Pak expressed his enthusiasm in a press statement about the unique opportunity to showcase these two iconic creatures together. The first “Planet of the Apes” film left a lasting impression on him as a child:

“'Planet of the Apes' and 'Predator' are two of the most iconic Sci-Fi franchises of all time. I would be thrilled to be involved with either one. But both together? Simply incredible!”
