When asked if it is difficult for him to watch films like The Dark Knight Rises knowing he could have been part of them, Damon replied candidly, "It was a small role, and I was already leading another movie." He acknowledged the financial impact of his decision, stating, "I also… I gave up the biggest paycheck in Hollywood history. Financially speaking… I can’t do worse."

Despite this missed opportunity, the Martian star insists he has no regrets about his choice. He believes that every role finds its rightful actor, stating in the interview, "I truly believe that actors get the roles that are meant for them." This bold refusal hasn’t caused him any remorse.
Damon, who nearly missed out on his pivotal role in The Martian, did not specify which film he was committed to that led him to pass on The Dark Knight, which was filmed between 2007 and 2008. However, considering release dates, it is likely he was involved in projects like The Informant! directed by Steven Soderbergh, Invictus by Clint Eastwood, or Green Zone by Paul Greengrass, all of which featured him in lead roles. For Damon, it seems this was not a missed opportunity but rather a decision he stands by with grace.
