Summer Cinema at the Moulin Rouge: An Open-Air Film Festival on the Rooftop

As the summer sun sets over Paris, the iconic Moulin Rouge transforms its rooftop into a unique open-air cinema experience. With red lounge chairs, noise-canceling headphones, and a stunning view of the Avenue de Clichy, this cultural landmark is redefining what it means to enjoy cinema in the heart of the city.

Every Wednesday from July 15 to September 2, the festival Cinéma sur le Toit invites lucky attendees to enjoy a selection of films curated around this year’s theme, "trajectories." Tickets, available for free on the official website six days prior to each screening, offer a rare opportunity to watch films in a truly extraordinary setting.

The festival kicks off with the iconic Cléo de 5 à 7 by Agnès Varda. The lineup features a diverse array of films that explore various interpretations of the theme, including E.T. by Steven Spielberg, La Tortue Rouge by Michael Dudok de Wit, Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch, and Compartiment n°6 by Juho Kuosmanen. Each film offers a different perspective on geographical, psychological, or symbolic journeys, promising a delightful escape for viewers.

Set against a backdrop of twinkling lights and the enchanting ambiance of the Moulin Rouge, attendees can enjoy a drink while nestled against the venue’s storied façade. As the screening time approaches, guests are invited to move to the other side of the Bar à Bulles, where they can settle into one of the forty signature red lounge chairs for an intimate viewing experience. To enhance the auditory experience, noise-canceling headphones are provided, allowing audiences to fully immerse themselves in the film while shutting out the hustle and bustle of the street below. Underneath the stars and the dazzling neon lights of the Moulin Rouge, the magic of cinema comes alive.
