Celebrating a Decade of La Cabina: The International Medium-Length Film Festival
La Cabina celebrates its 10th anniversary as an International Medium-Length Film Festival, showcasing diverse films and artistic expressions.
On November 26, 2017, La Cabina celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a significant milestone for the International Medium-Length Film Festival. Over the past decade, the festival has played a pivotal role in promoting the medium-length format, which ranges from 30 to 60 minutes, allowing filmmakers to share their unique perspectives within a concise timeframe. Many emerging directors have successfully showcased their work through this platform.
The inaugural event took place at the Palau de la Música, attended by notable figures including Carmen Amoraga and Albert Girona. The ceremony was hosted by the company Viviendo del Cuento, adding a touch of creativity to the celebration.
This year's edition featured submissions from 13 countries, showcasing 24 medium-length films in the official section, screened at the Sala Berlanga of La Filmoteca de Valencia. The Inèdits section highlighted six films, including the renowned work by Antonio Mercero that inspired the festival's name. Additionally, the Amalgama section included ten medium-length films from five different countries, encompassing a variety of documentaries and videos.
In honor of its 10th anniversary, the festival showcased ten posters created by artists Mireia Pérez, Julia Valencia, Gloria Vilches, Estudio Menta, Carla Fuentes, Paula Bonet, Luis Demano, Escif, Jorge Lawerta, and Cachetejack. These works, featuring comic art, collage, graphic design, and graffiti, provided a platform for unrestricted artistic expression.
The festival also embraced music, with local bands Salfvman, Navvier, and Tardor performing at the Centre del Carme in Valencia, delighting attendees with their vibrant sounds.
On the previous day, the winners were announced at the Centro Cultural La Nau. The prestigious award for the official section went to "Ochiru," directed by Kazuya Murayama, featuring actor Makoto Nakamura and music by Wataru Maeguchi. The audience award was presented to the French film "Chasse Royale," directed by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret, with actress Angélique Gernez receiving accolades as well.
