Cinema Jove 2016 Introduces New Webseries Section
Cinema Jove 2016 introduces a new section for webseries, featuring 20 international entries and special awards. The festival kicks off on June 17.
The 31st edition of the International Film Festival of Valencia, Cinema Jove, is set to showcase an exciting new section dedicated to web-based fiction. Organized by the Institut Valencià de Cultura, this year's festival will feature 20 webseries vying for several prestigious awards, including the Luna de Valencia for Best Webseries, Luna de Valencia for Best Direction of a Webseries, the Audience Award, and special jury prizes from both the Marseille Web Fest and the Los Angeles Web Festival.
These competing webseries hail from a variety of countries, including Spain, Australia, Argentina, Switzerland, Singapore, South Korea, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The festival aims to highlight the diverse and creative works that have emerged for online platforms over the past year.
Among the official selections, three Spanish projects and three webseries from Valencian directors will also be featured. Notable entries include Cabanyal Z, directed by Joan Alomar, which seeks to revitalize the Cabanyal neighborhood; Escabeche, created by Andrea Invierno, Raquel Cambralla, and Sofía Tatay as part of a grassroots initiative to restore traditional Valencia bars; and Ma femme est pasteure, a work by Valencian director Víctor Costa, who is now based in Switzerland.
The festival will kick off with an inaugural event on Friday, June 17, at 10 PM, held at the Teatro Principal in Valencia. This year promises to be a milestone for Cinema Jove, as it embraces the growing influence of digital storytelling in the cinematic landscape.
