Exploring Fenaison: The Latest Creation from Sujet Parfums

In recent weeks, I’ve been eager to share my thoughts on a captivating fragrance discovery, but the whirlwind of the school year's end has kept me occupied. Sujet Parfums: Fragrances Shaped by the World’s Rhythm

As noted in my earlier article, Sujet Parfums, founded by Ning Li—also the creator behind Typologie—offers limited-edition fragrances. This exclusivity stems not from constraints but from a deep respect for the agricultural rhythms and the earth that provide the raw materials for each scent.

Each fragrance is designed to be unisex, appealing to both women and men. They are also influenced by the seasons, weather conditions, and geographical origins, making every bottle a unique and atypical essence.

To experience Sujet Parfums, one must register on their website to become a member and gain exclusive access. Each bottle is part of a small series and is individually numbered, enhancing its rarity and value. This approach highlights the unseen aspects of fragrance creation, such as craftsmanship, seasonal variations, and the beauty of agricultural life.

Fenaison: The New Offering from Sujet Parfums

Following the launch of "Le Foin" in November 2025, Sujet Parfums has unveiled "Fenaison" in March 2026. This new fragrance continues the exploration of hay, transitioning from its fresh, vegetal notes to a warmer, enveloping aroma reminiscent of dried hay. Initially, I found it challenging to discern a significant difference between the two scents on paper, so I decided to experience it firsthand.

Fenaison is characterized as a sunny and generous scent, capturing the richness of harvests and the warmth they bring. The top notes feature a spicy breath of cinnamon paired with dried fruits. At its heart, the fragrance reveals smoked hay, tonka bean absolute, and cacao resin, while the base notes offer an amber foundation warmed by patchouli and labdanum, a resin from a Mediterranean shrub.

This unique blend diverges from the initial creation, as Fenaison intertwines hay with spices, tonka, and sweet tobacco, resulting in a deep, gourmand nectar with oriental notes. It is both warm and woody, distinctly different from its predecessor, "Le Foin."

My Impression of Fenaison

While both fragrances share the same design and volume (50ml), the differences become apparent upon opening. "Le Foin" has a lighter hue, whereas Fenaison presents a slightly more intense liquid. The initial notes of "Le Foin" are very vegetal and smoky, contrasting sharply with Fenaison’s rounder and more enveloping notes.

Personally, I found Fenaison to be more enjoyable from the first application. It is an astonishing creation that strays from traditional perfumery. I initially perceived "Le Foin" as leaning masculine, but I now see Fenaison as a true unisex fragrance that can flatter both men and women. Its scent is comforting and gourmand without venturing into overly conventional territory.

The evolution of the fragrance on the skin is equally delightful, boasting impressive longevity. It strikes a balance between intensity and sensuality, with its gourmand aspects subtly suggested and harmonizing beautifully with the darker elements of dried hay and patchouli. This scent is not commonly encountered, making it memorable. I have received numerous inquiries about it on the days I wore it!

As with "Le Foin," Fenaison is crafted in France, and I received bottle number 601 out of a limited run of 3162. If you find yourself drawn to one of the Sujet Parfums bottles, I highly recommend registering to have a chance at experiencing them.
