James Bond Producer Reveals When New 007 Will Be Announced

In a recent interview, producer Amy Pascal disclosed when fans can expect to learn who will portray the next James Bond for Amazon's upcoming film.

It has been nearly five years since Daniel Craig concluded his tenure as the iconic MI6 agent with a bang in "No Time to Die," directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. This film was widely regarded as a fitting finale for one of the most celebrated portrayals of the character.

Since then, the wait for the next installment, tentatively titled "James Bond 26," has been lengthy. The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, is projected for a release at the end of 2027 or early 2028, which would mark a staggering seven-year gap between Bond films—the longest in the franchise's history. The previous record was nearly six years between "Licence to Kill" and "GoldenEye," during which a new actor was also sought after Timothy Dalton's departure, leading to Pierce Brosnan stepping in.

An added complexity this time around is the shift in production studios. After 62 years, the beloved franchise is no longer under the control of the Broccoli family. Amazon has acquired full creative rights for approximately one billion US dollars, with an upfront payment of 20 million dollars. The remainder will be settled through profit-sharing arrangements.

With these changes, Amazon has been laying the groundwork for the future of the franchise. Pascal and David Heyman are the new producers at the helm. Pascal, who is currently enjoying significant success with "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," mentioned in her conversation with Deadline that fans should anticipate the announcement of the new Bond actor by the end of the year. She stated:

"I would say the end of the year is a good time [for the announcement of the new James Bond]. We are really taking a very, very methodical approach. After working with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I have to say: Daniel Craig is hard to top. It has to be something completely different, thrilling, and totally new."

Among the younger contenders for the role of James Bond is Tom Holland, known for his portrayal of Spider-Man.

Who Are the Leading Candidates for the Next James Bond?

Currently, Denis Villeneuve is reportedly preparing for filming, which is set to commence either at the end of this year or early 2027. With the foundational concept for the next action film already established, test shoots and casting for potential actors have begun.

August marks a crucial period for casting, and it is undoubtedly a challenging task. No one wants to face the pressure of finding a new actor after a film, which could be seen as a defeat. The role carries immense responsibility and expectations.

The next James Bond is expected to be in the age range of late 20s to early 30s. Current frontrunners for the role include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson, and Tom Francis, while Tom Holland appears to be out of the running, as he intends to continue his role as Spider-Man for the foreseeable future.
