When a spectator asked, "Was Jean-Pierre the first choice for the role?" it could have been an easy question for the directors to address. Someone then suggested, 'What about Bacri?' and they responded, 'Oh no!'" he recounted.

Bacri jested, "Agnès Jaoui, who knew Eric’s aunt, said, 'You’re really underestimating him; he can play certain things.' They brought me back for a ninth audition, and they finally accepted me—though it was against their better judgment. That’s why I only got paid €2500 for the whole film!"
