Jean-Pierre Bacri's Hilarious Response to a Fan's Question at a Premiere
Jean-Pierre Bacri's witty and hilarious response to a fan's question during the premiere of 'Le Sens de la fête' showcases his unique comedic talent.

During a 2017 premiere of Le Sens de la fête, actor Jean-Pierre Bacri was asked a seemingly simple question that led to an unexpectedly humorous improvisation. Instead of providing a straightforward answer, Bacri turned the moment into a comedic performance that left the audience in stitches.

The event took place as Bacri joined directors Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache for a Q&A session following the film screening. When a spectator asked, "Was Jean-Pierre the first choice for the role?" it could have been an easy question for the directors to address. However, Bacri seized the opportunity to craft a playful narrative.
"Ooooh no!" he exclaimed, prompting laughter from the audience. Recognizing the comedic potential of the moment, Bacri continued to elaborate on his story.

In a humorous twist, Bacri claimed that he was actually the last resort after a lengthy search for the right actor. "According to what they told me, they contacted 17 actors before me," he quipped. He humorously listed several prominent French actors, suggesting that the directors had gone through an exhaustive process before finally considering him. "They started with their first choice and then went down the list—Lindon, Auteuil, Cluzet, etc. At one point, they were completely lost. Someone then suggested, 'What about Bacri?' and they responded, 'Oh no!'" he recounted.
As the audience continued to enjoy his antics, Bacri elaborated that he had to fight for the role, stating, "I auditioned. Eight times."

Bacri's tale grew even more absurd as he imagined his mother intervening on his behalf. He concocted a story where his mother reached out to the mothers of the directors, asking, "Why? What’s wrong with my son?" He humorously claimed that this conversation led to him being reconsidered. "I came back eight times because they weren’t fully convinced."
The story took another twist when he introduced Agnès Jaoui, who allegedly played a pivotal role in securing him a ninth audition. Bacri jested, "Agnès Jaoui, who knew Eric’s aunt, said, 'You’re really underestimating him; he can play certain things.' They brought me back for a ninth audition, and they finally accepted me—though it was against their better judgment. That’s why I only got paid €2500 for the whole film!"
In just a few moments, Bacri transformed a simple inquiry into a full-fledged comedic sketch, showcasing his unique talent for turning the mundane into the extraordinary. This performance captured the essence of what made Bacri a beloved figure in French cinema, illustrating his ability to create humor from everyday situations.
Le Sens de la fête is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
